Garouste & Bonetti, Coffee table " Ring " |
Here's to the power of books and the internet. I was flipping through Elle Decor's book today ( ' The Height of Style ' ) and this coffee table just came to me in the pages. The other furniture in the spread simply receded into the background, but like someone you're fated to be with across the room at the party, this table fixed my attention straight away.
Thankfully, the authors mentioned the names of the designers so I could google them and check out their body of work (
davidgillgallery.com ... many thanks ) If you've seen the Yves Saint Laurent movie directed by Bertrand Bonnello, this is so totally something Yves would've had in his bevy of treasures. If you're looking for a movie and you're decorating inclined, you have to see it. It's seriously beautiful. That movie's taste and palette is very P.F.F.

Yves Klein, Table " Klein Blue Table " |
The thing I loved about David Gill gallery was that I couldn't tell whether the pieces displayed were for sale or not. I mean, I can kind of imagine some art savvy hedge funder tapping the ' enquire about this piece ' button for the Yves Klein table. If I was a millionaire, this is what I'd be eyeing. What kinds of things would look good here? I'm thinking no ornaments.
Just let the items arrive organically. An empty coffee cup, random books from your bag, receipts tossed here and there and your iphone 7+ just nonchalantly left there as you've been called into another room. I'm all about looking after things, but what I've found to be just as founded in reasoning is to USE items. Would you baby this Yves Klein table? I think a couple of coffee stains will add to the charm ( but also devalue the price, alas )

Garouste & Bonetti, Mirror " Polynesia " |

Frederikson Stallard armchair and Ottoman " King Bonk " |
If anybody knows the technical style name for these kinds of sculptural pieces then let me know. It's touching on Max Bill but also just a lot more gloopier and blobbier.

Mattia Bonetti, Cabinet " Happy Birthday " ( I mean... kind of dying right now) |
I got excited seeing this cabinet by Mattia Bonetti ( one half of Garouste & Bonetti, the makers of the silver table I gushed about earlier ) For one, it's a novelty but it doesn't' look silly. It manages to look fun, young and idealistic all in one package. I wish that there were more pieces like this. It's true that most people aren't brave enough to spend on a piece that's not classic or safe, but those who do are the ones I want to be knowing. I don't think this would look out of place in a classic, old world type of home. It arrives at just the right amount of fun and childlike innocence without compromising on anything vital to disarming its credibility design or materials wise.

Italian Mid Century is SO where it's at for me and Gaspare Asaro, a very nicely stocked and curated shop I came across on google specialises in that. Think gold, rounded edges and small, bronze statues just like the one below that you can add anywhere for a hint of euro luxe. Italy is absolutely my next stop in terms of travelling Europe. There are lots of countries in Europe that I want to see ( Paris for the third time definitely will be in the cards ) but there is a certain something that Italy possesses which I'm curious about. I like their allegiance to beauty and elegance just like the French are. I like how that's a part of their culture, that they appreciate gorgeousness.

Crystal Champagne Coupe |
Ever since watching Brideshead Revisited ( the 80's TV series not the 2008 re-do ) I became super obsessed with these champagne saucers which aren't easy to find in shops. I found a set from the Waverley antiques market ( read the post
here ) which I should have bought in hindsight. My reasoning was that I don't drink enough which is true but they are just so fab. The other night I was out with my friends for dinner and I got served my white wine in a tumbler glass. I felt my heart drop because using a nice wine glass with a thin stem is really half of the fun of drinking, I'm just going to say it.
